People in developing countries often suffer from limitations in their career and social life due to lack of proper expression in their spoken English. This project aims to develop a speech prosody evaluator for reading fluency of school students in India. The Desktop application will present passages suitable to the student’s grade level and upon reading, the recorded speech prosody features of duration, pitch and intensity will be used to calculate a score. The scores when analyzed, will determine the reading fluency of the student. The application, which is first of its kind for English as a second language (ESL) school students, is expected to help them with pitch, loudness, tempo and rhythm skills of English speaking, which is vital for their social and career development.
